It looks like face masks are here to stay, so I thought I would put together some tips and product recommendations for the dreaded spots these masks can cause!
1. Cleanse
When you get home from work after wearing your mask for 8+ hours the most important thing you can do is cleanse. By using a proper cleanser you will remove all the dirt and makeup thoroughly from your skin and prevent any lingering bacteria from giving you spots.
You will all know by now that my favourite cleanser for this is The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter. Message me to order one of these for 10% off! I now work with The Body Shop so will receive commission from any orders placed through me.
2. Exfoliate
A couple of times a week you want to exfoliate so you remove all of the dead skin and allow your products to work even better! I like to use either an exfoliating toner or mask.
My favourites are:
The Ordinary Salicylic 2% Masque - this is a great mask for exfoliating the skin and combatting blackheads. As with all TO products, it is also budget friendly at only £9.90 a bottle.
Pixi Retinol Tonic - I've spoke about this product before too but I really do swear by it! It's so gentle on the skin whilst also exfoliating. I use this most evenings to keep any breakouts at bay.
Your evening skincare routine is where you can treat any issues you have with your skin. This could be dryness, redness or break outs. Whatever it is, find a good serum that works for you! I find that Azelaic Acid can really help when my skin is red or breaking out and I always use a hydrating serum AM and PM. This will just help your skin stay plump and hydrated!
My favourites are:
Azelaic Acid from both The Ordinary and Paula's Choice - both very different price points but work wonders for redness and blackheads! Paula's Choice is a thinner consistency that I enjoy mixing in with my moisturiser but The Ordinary is much thicker and I find works best when applied to target areas after moisturiser.
4. Hydrate
Before you put your face mask on make sure you've got a good layer of moisturiser on to protect your skin! Caroline Hirons did an interesting segment on This Morning where she talked about preserving your moisture barrier to protect your skin from breakouts caused by masks! I'll leave the link to that video at the end of the post.
One of my favourite moisturisers is the Ren Global Protection Day Cream or Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream. Both very gentle on the skin and provide good levels of moisture. Or if you're looking for a really rich cream to spot treat dry areas then definitely try Weleda Skin Food. This is a rich, balm like cream that is a saviour in the winter time.
Another step I have recently incorporated into my routine is an oil. This helps me to get extra moisture into my skin whilst also calming any sensitivity or redness as the product I have been using contains CBD. The Body Shop have a new CBD range out for stressed and dehydrated skin (which is almost everyone atm!) and I've only tried the oil but so far I'm really enjoying it and it smells amazing.
A top tip for during the day is to carry a facial mist with you. This will allow you to hydrate your skin throughout the day and can even be sprayed on top of makeup! A lot of brands will sell them but I have tried the Pixi mists and really enjoyed them! Especially if you tend to get dry skin during the winter it's a good way to add some extra moisture to your skin and can be sprayed before your moisturiser for a little boost!
Thank you so much for reading, I hope you're all doing well.
Remember to message me if there's anything you would like to order from The Body Shop or to ask me any questions, always here to help!
